Give research-based explanations for key elements of the Immanuel Approach to emotional healing. In our experience, these explanations have been so compelling that they have significantly improved a person’s ability to participate in the healing process.
Give a research-based definition of psychological trauma, and explain how the toxic content from unresolved trauma comes forward as “invisible” implicit memory
Present research and case studies that provide information about the “Verbal Logical Explainer” (VLE) – the part of our brain/mind whose job it is to make sense out of our experiences.
Show how traumatic implicit memory interacts with the VLE to produce sometimes comical, sometimes costly misinterpretations of our life experiences. These misinterpretations then have the power to wreak havoc in our closest relationships – spouse, family, community.
Provide simple yet effective new tools for recognizing and limiting the damage of “invisible” implicit memory and VLE misinterpretations
Present brand new material (developed after the Springfield IL THRIVE conference in June 2008, and Winnipeg MB Canada conference in September 2008) about our fascinating and important Relational Connection Circuits
Provide opportunity and leadership for group exercises that enable participants to witness and experience the Immanuel Approach to emotional healing. NOTE: This group exercise context will be appropriate for working with small to moderate size trauma, but not severe trauma. See “Who Should Attend” below
Presenter
Karl Lehman, M.D., Psychiatrist
The presentation method will include:
Lectures with illustrative PowerPoint slides
Video clips of actual healing sessions that help to show rather than just tell the concepts being taught
Time for questions and answers
Group exercises to begin applying the material taught in lecture (see note under Who Should Attend for limitations and cautions)
Who Should Attend
Pastors, Lay Ministers, Small Group Leaders – who want a deeper understanding of how people’s past experiences affect them, and some things leaders can do about it
Mental Health Professionals – who want to broaden their healing toolbox, and who need to see some scientific basis for new healing tools and methods
Christians on the journey of healing and transformation themselves, and those who want to be supportive to others around them.
Some folks should NOT attend:
Some of the live ministry session videos portray intense distress before the person receives healing. Many who have used these videos report that watching the intense pain in the first part of the session can stir them up if they have similar pain in their own lives. Some of the exercises can also stir up unresolved pain. Pain that gets stirred up by the video segments and/or exercises is often then resolved in the group exercises, but occasionally a person gets stirred up and is not able to resolve the pain in the group exercise setting. Therefore, it is important that participants be able to care for themselves, or that they have brought along people from their own communitites who have experience helping them, if painful issues are powerfully activated and not resolved in the group exercise setting. The teaching material presented and the exercises included in the seminar will be powerful and valuable, but Karl and Charlotte will not be able to provide individual sessions or follow-up care for participants who get stirred up and are unable to resolve their pain through the group exercises.
